Our mission was clear: to create a streamlined tool that mitigates OSS compliance risks, supports faster go-to-market timelines, and reduces legal costs. By consolidating OSS component management, legal checks, and license compliance in one interface, this tool was envisioned to become a cornerstone of the company’s legal and compliance operations.

The Problem
Software companies face challenges in mitigating OSS compliance risks, navigating complex legal checks, and managing license adherence, all of which slow development cycles and inflate costs. The OSS Review Toolkit addresses these pain points by streamlining compliance workflows, automating repetitive tasks, and enabling faster, risk-aware decision-making for legal and compliance teams.
The Problem

The Solution
To address the challenges in the OSS review process for the telecom giant, we conducted comprehensive research involving 12 interviews across four user groups over 20 days. Pain points like inefficiency, scattered information, unintuitive navigation, and lack of automation were categorized into three primary areas: Findability, Efficiency, and Customization. By mapping user journeys, we identified critical touchpoints and key interactions, revealing opportunities to streamline processes, reduce cognitive load, and enhance task completion. This groundwork provided a clear understanding of user needs and priorities.
The solution focuses on revamping the outdated desktop application with a modern, user-centric design approach. The new design aims to centralize information, integrate automation, and introduce dynamic customization features to meet diverse user needs. Enhanced reporting, intuitive navigation, and optimized app performance are key components to improve overall efficiency and usability. By aligning with user expectations, the solution aspires to deliver a cohesive and future-ready experience.

The 4D method—Discover, Define, Design, Deliver—guided our journey to reimagine the OSS internal review kit for legal, compliance, and intellectual property teams of a leading software company. We began with Discovery, immersing ourselves in user research to uncover pain points and understand the complex workflows of these specialized teams. Armed with insights, we moved to Define, crystallizing key challenges into actionable goals focused on Findability, Efficiency, and Customization, we crafted user stories to tackle each and every problem individually. In the Design phase, we crafted intuitive solutions, blending automation, centralized data access, and tailored interfaces. Finally, in Deliver, we transformed concepts into a robust, user-centric system, elevating the team's capabilities and setting a new standard for enterprise tools.
